Purpose of the tool

Calculate the area of rectangles or compound figures using side lengths.

Grade: 3,4,5,6

Explanation of the tool

A rectangular figure is displayed with its side lengths. Use the side length to calculate the surface area of the shape.

Write down the answer at the bottom of the screen. Press the 'Check' button to reveal the answer.

Press on a blue arrow for a new assignment.

Go to the options screen to choose types of shapes. You can choose between rectangular- or compound figures. You can also select both to get a mix of both.

You can select one or more types of units. You can choose from: inches, feet, yards, millimeters, centimeters, and meters.

To make it more challenging, select 'some' to show some of the side lengths instead of all side lengths.
